Dr. Ashley Olson
Sport Medicine

Dr. Olson received her undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of Manitoba while competing on the varsity rowing team. After completing Family Medicine residency, she moved to Ottawa for her fellowship in Sport and Exercise Medicine. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Medicine for her research in Pediatric Sport Related Concussion, a Diploma from the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine (CASEM), and a Certificate of Added Competence from the College of Family Physicians of Canada. 


Dr. Olson has served as the team physician for the University of Ottawa and Carleton University’s rugby and hockey teams. She has also provided medical coverage at a variety of events including the Volleyball Nations League, Team Canada Women’s Para Hockey selection camps, the North American Indigenous Games, and the Ontario Parasport Games. She is actively involved with teaching medical students at residents.


Dr. Olson performs ultrasound-guided injections, including corticosteroid and hyaluronic acid. Her goal is to work with you to develop a treatment plan that helps you return to what you love to do. 


Dr Olson played competitive basketball and team handball for many years. Outside of work, she enjoys staying active with cycling, swimming, and hiking.

  • Shoulder: intraarticular glenohumeral joint, acromioclavicular joint, subacromial bursa, LHBT (peritendinous)
  • Elbow:  intraarticular radiocapitellum, common extensor and common flexor tendons (peritendinous)
  • Hand/wrist: intraarticular DIPJ, PIPJ, CMC and intercarpal joints, TFCC, trigger finger/thumb, first dorsal extensor compartment (De Quervain’s)
  • Hips: intraarticular hip joint, Greater Trochanteric Pain Syndrome (gluteus medius tendinopathy/bursitis)
  • Knee: intraarticular knee, bursae
  • Foot/ankle: Intra-articular DIP, PIP, MTP, Midfoot & Hindfoot joints, Tarsal tunnel, Sinus tarsi
  • Nerve blocks: median nerve (carpal tunnel syndrome)
