Dietician and Sports Nutrition

Valerie (Netterfield) Howden, MSc, RD

Valerie received her Master’s of Science in Applied Human Nutrition from the University of Guelph.  Since completing her Practicum in Clinical Nutrition from Chedoke McMaster Hospitals, Valerie has over 15 years of experience as a registered dietitian at St. Boniface and the Health Sciences Centre of Winnipeg and various clinics.   

Sports nutrition service focuses on training, recovery, competition, and travel needs to provide optimal performance.  All ages and activity levels are welcome.

General nutrition counseling sessions will identify goals and provide tools for anemia, allergies, digestive health, heart health, osteoporosis, pediatrics, pregnancy + breastfeeding, weight loss/maintenance, and vegetarianism.

Body composition assessment (ISAK Protocol) using 8 skin-folds and 4 girth measurements to determine lean and fat mass is also available.  These sessions are available upon request and take approximately 45-minutes to complete.  Further instructions will be provided at the initial assessment. 


Chris Hyde, RD, ISAK Certified

Chris is a Registered Dietitian and received his Diploma of Science in Human Nutrition from the University of Manitoba.  Chris completed the Dietetic Internship with the Manitoba Dietetic Partnership Program.  Upon his completion of his internship he gained experience with individual athletes and sport teams, from the grass roots level up to the elite / competitive ranks.  He also has one on one experience with individuals with various nutritional concerns.    

Chris has special interest in sport and general health nutrition.  During your 1 on 1 counseling session you will be provided with instructions on how to create meal plans, label reading, carbohydrate counting, weight reducing diets and ways to improve your overall health.

While working with an athlete and teams, you will be guided and through the nutritional process specific to your individual and sport requirements. Group / Team sessions are also available upon request. 

Chris is also available to work alongside individuals who live a healthy, active lifestyle but who have a chronic health condition, to create meal  plans that will help you reach their desired nutritional and health goals.
